This is truly the home of the lordly moose. Our very high percentage of kills every year gives ample proof of our claim. Hunting may be done within a few minutes of camp. Every care is taken to see that your kill is prepared and maintained in excellent condition. Moose hunting is our specialty. Many of our hunters get their moose early in the week, so you may care to bring a little fishing gear to take advantage of our fine fishing - but please remember, the airways do require you to keep your weight down. There are also bear, ducks, geese, partridge, etc. which may be taken within a very few minutes of camp. We would like to see you take home a highly rewarding bag of both game and birds. Myself and my guides know this area thoroughly - know the habits of game and their movements throughout the whole season. When it comes to hunting Black Bear, Northwestern Ontario is the place to be and our area is among the best. We have a high population of bear here and your chances could not be better. We hunt over baited stands (most have been used for many years and have proven to be very productive) that have been placed about two weeks prior to the hunter’s arrival and checked daily. We take only a limited number of hunters at any one time in order to provide you every chance for a successful hunt which our percentage of filled licenses will attest to.

We have 420 sq. km. of prime black bear area that is assigned to us exclusively. You can hunt over one of our active baits, some of which have been baited for many years, or you can choose some of the newer baits that have not been hunted before. Some baits you can drive fairly close to, and others you need an ATV to get to. Our bear hunts can accommodate either archery or rifle, that is your choice, some even take a rifle and a bow with them, then they can take advantage of whatever opportunity presents itself. Moose hunting in the fall can be a very exciting time. We are on the boundary of two wildlife management units, 19 and 21A, so we can offer you some fantastic choices of areas to hunt very close to the Resort. If you want to match wits with the Giants of the North with only your bow and a calling device, you are in for some exciting times that you will never forget. If you are a more traditional hunter, with a rifle, then you can also have some great times. The archery season opens first.

The Archery Moose Hunt at Rainbow Point Lodge is guaranteed to be one you will enjoy. There are very few thrills in hunting more exciting than being close up to a Canadian moose! The wilderness around the Lodge at Perrault Falls and throughout the surrounding area has an excellent moose population. In the early fall as the rut time sets in the moose become extremely active. Our knowledgeable guides know the woods and the moose behaviors very well, and will ensure that you have the best possible chance of success. Our bear hunt guides aren't owners or employees responsible to do some baiting in between their regular daily duties. These guys are committed to building quality stands, clearing shooting lanes that give you clear view to your target, pre-baiting and maintaining multiple sites on several of our Bear Management Areas, timing hits to give you estimates on peak times to be on your stand, and remain on call for you when your animal is down. They will retrieve your animal, clean, quarter, freeze and store the meat, and prepare the hide for you.

Our high success rates are attributed to healthy, plentiful herds as well as our surveillance of their movements. You can choose to hunt from one of our 9 fully equipped outpost camps, 2 lodges or from one of our tent camps on lakes used for moose hunting only. At our 2 lodges we have more than one guest cabin. During the fishing season we have multiple groups at these camps at one time; however during the moose hunt we generally have only one hunting group at either of these camps at any one time. However, in some cases there will be an overlap of a day or two between groups or we may have a couple of small fishing groups at the same time. Our 3 mini hunt camps are located on smaller lakes that we utilize for moose hunting only. Rather than permanent cabins at these locations, we erect tent camps, which are removed after the hunt is over for the season.

At Halley’s Camps and the Outpost Company, we pride ourselves on our moose hunt. Over the last fifteen years our rifle success rate has been 90% with three of the seasons having 100% on large bulls. In the fall of 1989, we were lucky enough to take the largest bull ever recorded in Ontario, scoring 225.5 Boone and Crockett. (see pic on right) With our archery hunt we have averaged over a 25% success rate. This is by far the most exciting hunt we have to offer. Our moose hunts are run in a first class manner with the hunter's comfort and safety being number one concerns. At the Outpost Company, we understand that a hunter should know what is going on at all times during the hunt and to feel that they are a part of the hunt. Our experienced guides make this possible. Hunting moose consists of standing at crossings or feeding areas such as large meadows or willow swamps. Scouting areas either by sight or sound can end with a very exciting stalk of a trophy bull. Calling for moose can also be very exciting and successful, but this method depends a great deal on the type of fall we are having and especially the current weather.

An ATV is an asset if you have one, but not necessary, as most of our baits are either walk-in, drive and walk-in, or water accessible. Baits are set up to accommodate archery hunters (20 to 25 yards), but can be adjusted for rifle hunters. We like to host only 6 to 8 hunters per week to a maximum of 20 hunters during the season, so that you can receive the full attention of the guide.
